Invest in Eden launches funded training for businesses in Upper Eden

Invest in Eden launched a funded training for business programme for businesses in Kirkby Stephen.

The project is designed to upskill the workforce and develop skills to support business growth in the area. The project is being managed by Eden District Council as part of Invest in Eden. Training will be delivered by a partnership of Cumbrian skills and business support providers and will offer funded and part funded training opportunities, focusing on workforce development for small and medium sized businesses in the Upper Eden area.

The first training session was Emergency First Aid provided by SHN Training Services, Kirkby Stephen.

Eden District Council’s Business Marketing Officer, Paul Walker, said: “We recognise the importance of growing the local economy, promoting prosperity, creating higher paid jobs and opportunities for young people. This project is designed to identify and support training requirements to help businesses prosper and grow. We are working with partners from across Cumbria to ensure that businesses have access to the highest quality training which is tailored to their business needs.”

A number of courses will be funded by The Edge. The Edge is a European Social Fund Project co-financed by the Skills Funding Agency as part of the Employees Support in Skills Project commissioned by Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership.

Courses that are not eligible for this funding will be supported with a 50% contribution towards course fees from Eden District Council.

QA Level 2 Award in citizenAID (RQF)

SHN Training Services Ltd can now offer the QA Level 2 Award in citizenAID (RQF).

In the last 3 months the UK has been left devastated following several terrorist attacks that have claimed the lives of countless victims and left many in hospital with critical injuries.

To help members of the public learn life-saving skills for use in these extreme situations, highly experienced military and civilian clinicians have created the citizenAID phone App and pocket guide. Designed to improve public resilience, this not-for-profit initiative has been widely publicised by media outlets including the BBC and Sky News, and has already been accessed by over a quarter of a million people since January.

To offer further support to the public, earlier this year Qualsafe Awards were approached by the creators of citizenAID to develop a regulated qualification to complement the phone App and pocket guide. Qualsafe Awards worked with citizenAID and together have developed the QA Level 2 Award in citizenAID (RQF), a 3 hour qualification specifically designed to help people react safely, prioritise the injured and give life-saving first aid to victims in the event of a deliberate multiple casualty incident.
